The first time I stayed at a bed & breakfast was when my wife and I went on our first anniversary vacation weekend. We knew we wanted seem away, we just wasn’t sure where or what we wanted to do.
A colleague of hers showed her a book of bed & breakfasts’ around the United Pronounces. She brought the book home to me to have a look to see what I thought about going to one of them for our anniversary. With zero experience (at the time) and zero understanding bed & breakfasts’ We had arrived a bit skeptical. Do people really want to spend my weekend staying in someone’s home?
The more I read about the bed & breakfast lifestyle, the more I came to be intrigued, until finally my girlfriend got hooked and we booked a bed & breakfast in upstate Vermont. I can honestly say it was a shot. The bed & breakfast owners treated us like royalty, waited on us like we were a king and queen, and meal truck (that was included in purchase price) was simply unbelievable.
Since then my girlfriend and I have been to two other bed & breakfasts, one in Williamsburg, VA and another in upstate Long island near Seneca Bay. Although the concept 1 bed & breakfast were similar, these different in several different ways. For instance in Vermont at breakfast and dinner (both of which were included) we sat at our table in the adjoining restaurant. In NY and VA we ate a big table with each of the other guests. In VA the owners took care of everything, well them and their boys and girls. In NY and VT the owners ran the place but also had help to get rooms ready and keep the place fully clean. In VT we had our own outside entrance to our room as should the room was all of our house. In NY and VA you would your own bedroom in the same house with one other guests.
Regardless of whichever style you choose, if you in no way stayed at a bed & breakfast you should. Each one was wonderful a person really felt familiar were part of your owner’s family a person stayed there.
I would recommend first pick a place where you know you would really love to stay. Do you like the heaps? How about the sun or a tropical island? Once you understand what you want to do, take a look up the bed & breakfasts in the areas that you have targeted and start reading up for them. Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other book stores have a wide array of books you can search without purchasing to get this information. You can even go to check your local library or look for a bed & breakfast directory online.
Once you have the location and motivate it narrowed down to a single or two possible bed & breakfast choices, start pricing them out and pay attention to if they are in your budget. I noticed you that may possibly a bit pricier then a normal hotel room (some of them anyway). However verify what sort of amenities you get for your reasonable price. Most come with breakfast, otherwise it just be called Bed & go outside of my house in the dawn. You get the level. Some also serve dinner and offer afternoon tea & snack foods.
